Produced Water Polishing on an FPSO, WA

Sector: Oil & Gas
Location: Western Australia

Single-pass MyCelx coalescer and polishing filters reduced hydrocyclone effluent from 270 ppm to 3 to 3.5 ppm oil in water.

Client: multinational oil and gas company, remote WA location.

Problem: produced water after the FPSO hydrocyclone still carried 270 ppm oil, all emulsified or soluble with no free oil separating even after a week.

Duty: 2.5 kL/h single-pass trial with a 30 ppm overboard limit, MPL Laboratory analysis.

Plant: MyCelx Advanced Coalescer (MAC) then MyCelx EB and WSO polishing filters in series.

Results: MAC reduced 270 to 101 ppm; first polishing stage to 11.95 ppm; WSO filters to 3 and 3.5 ppm; oil droplets below 1 micron removed; no breakthrough on filter inspection.
