MyCelx retrofit removed detergent-emulsified fuel that defeated a coalescing plate separator and an air-induction hydrocyclone, delivering below 10 ppm TPH at 2.5 times the CPS flow.
Client: major iron ore miner.
Problem: degreasers, truck wash detergent, floor cleaners, diesel spills from the refuelling bund and stormwater all reached one sump, emulsifying the fuel; a coalescing plate separator (CPS) could not reach compliance and a trialled air-induction hydrocyclone failed.
Duty: 5 kL/h through the existing CPS, oil 50 to 200 mg/L in very small emulsions.
Plant: skid-mounted MXR1200 housings in series with backwashable REGENerable media and MyCelx cartridge polishing, PLC-controlled backwash.
Results: clear, bright water below 10 ppm TPH and below 15 mg/L TSS, supplied for dust suppression; during storms or major washdowns the system bypasses the CPS and treats at 2.5 times the CPS flow with no extra capital.
